Yes. We keep the physical keyway. A smart lock should never be the only way into your own house, so the door still opens with a key, as well as from a keypad code, your phone or your watch. Nothing about the install removes that fallback.

Locks talk to the controller over Thread, so unlocking at the door, on a schedule or from your phone while you are at home needs no internet at all. Only remote unlocking from outside uses the connection, through an encrypted link to the controller in your home.

Yes. Keypads take codes that you add and remove yourself, so you can give a code before someone arrives and remove it when the job is done. Where the hardware allows it, family can carry a home key in Apple Wallet instead. No key leaves your hands.

Yes. Garage openers report open or closed status, can close on their own at night, and warn you if a door has been left open. The locks follow the same idea: auto-lock schedules and a check at bedtime that tells you whether everything is locked.
